How Taking Trains Reduces Your Carbon Footprint

Carbon emissions are among the most significant pollutants in the world today. The transport sector is a big contributor to these emissions, and that’s why by using little to no carbon-emission transport methods, you can contribute to a greener planet. An excellent place to start is by using the train. Here’s how this will help reduce your carbon footprint:

1. Trains Use less Energy

According to the International Energy Authority, transport by train contributes to 8 percent of human movement while only using 2 percent of global transport-energy demand. If the need for trains was redirected to other means of transport, such as planes and trucks, then CO2 emissions in the transport sector would be equal to emissions produced by the entire African continent. This shows the significant advantage of train transportation when it comes to energy efficiency and carbon emissions reduction.

2. Easier than Driving

If people were to use trains instead of cars, then carbon emissions would be three times less than current numbers. Also, going by train is faster since there is no traffic, and you can relax and enjoy the ride since you are not the one at the wheel. It is even easier to get work done if you’re travelling a long distance.

3. Sometimes Trains Are Faster than Planes

Planes are fast, but sometimes trains can be even faster. A good example is the Acela Express non-stop service between New York and Washington. By using the train, you can cut the trip down to about two and a half hours.

4. Trains Will Be Upgraded

With mounting concerns about the use of energy and global warming, some states seek to increase rail channels with a view to promoting train transport. Others are making their railway systems more efficient and affordable by adopting high-speed rail lines.
